In the Indian Epic Ramayana, Mata Sita was held captive at the “Ashoka Vatika” in Sri Lanka after being abducted by the asura king Ravana. During my visit to Sri Lanka, I heard the stories of this legend from the local people there and I have painted an imaginary scene in which Sita is eagerly waiting for her Lord Rama at a riverside location in the Ashoka Vatika. She was kept under the watchful eyes of the demonizes serving in the kingdom of Lanka. I used my artistic imagination to give a very local Sri Lankan theme in my creation.
